Report of the ordination of William Smith in the Scottish Catholic Directory of 1855.
The Rev. William Smith, born on the 11th May, 1830, at Cuttlebrae, in the Enzie, Banffshire, was admitted into Blairs College on the 3d of August, 1842, and was sent, on 3d May, 1847, to the Scots College of Valladolid. Having there finished his studies, he was ordained Subdeacon on the 14th, Deacon on the 28th, and Priest on the 30th May, 1854, at Palentia, by Senor Jeronimo Fernandez, Bishop of that Diocese. On returning to Scotland in the end of June following, he was, after some stay at Preshome, sent to Peterhead on the death of the Rev. D. Carmichael, and after a residence of two months in that Mission, was finally appointed to Strichen and its dependent stations.
